The family’s motto of Geology, Origins, and Territory are best exemplified in the passion indeered on all the estate wines. The geology is principal, not only since that was Michael’s background, but it is the sole composition of the building blocks that make the vineyard and varietals excel in the estate. The origins revolves around not just the legacy created by the Larner family, but also reminiscent of the origins of the award wining fruit that has set the vineyard apart as a “Californian Grand Cru”, stated by Robert Parker, Jr., that ultimately leads to world-class wines. Lastly, the territory, which must be perfectly suited to allow the cultivated varietals to express their true characteristics, where year after year the gapes and their wines consistently produce optimal aromas and flavors – eventually entering the vintage bottled time-capsuled.

Pale pink in color with shiny copper highlights, the 2019 Rosé represents a blend of estate-grown fruit made in the saignée method resulting in the beautifully delicate and luminous appearance of this wine. The aromas are fine and softly measured with cassis, pink grapefruit and sweet almond. Aged 2 months in stainless steel.
The 2017 Santa Barbara County Transverse is an approachable blend of Syrah grapes from various vineyard sites across the greater Santa Barbara area. This is a bright, fruit forward wine with bursting tones of red cherry, blackberry, leather and dark chocolate. Tangy notes of exotic spice drive the mid weight mouthfeel and soft tannic structure. 500 cases produced.

Our newest vintage of our estate grown Syrah. The 2017 vintage Syrah boasts powerful aromas of dark fruit, coffee, menthol, and dried tea. Opulent mouthfeel with firm tannins, and a palate adorned with white chocolate, leather, and pepper. As the only AVA dedicated to Syrah, Ballard Canyon AVA has emerged as the “home” of Syrah in America. Aged 22 months in 60% new oak (equal parts French barrels and French puncheon) and 40% neutral French oak barrel.
The Larner 2017 Ballard Canyon Grenache is an elegant and fruit-forward wine that opens to a seamless and carefully-measured bouquet of dark fruit, cassis and plum. With those dark fruit characteristics at its core, the wine is framed by chalky notes with dusty endnotes of graphite and iron ore. You also get hints of aniseed and licorice root. Aged in neutral barrel and puncheons, this mid-weight wine offers the freshness for near-term drinking, but it also has the textural richness for longer cellar aging. Michael Larner says the 2017 Grenache is a wine he is especially proud of.
